Making Space on Purpose
Relaxation restores magickal agency and psychic accuracy
For the last decade, particularly the last five years I’ve been increasingly packing my schedule with everything possible. Last year I said “yes” to almost every event invitation and found myself teaching, presenting, or leading a retreat in a different state pretty much every month until October. I also had the privilege to write a bunch of forewords. That plus reading other people’s books and manuscripts for a possible endorsement if I liked it, meant that pretty much all my reading time was already filled with little room to do reading for my own research. The issue here isn’t that I didn’t love all the traveling and teaching and meeting people or reading that I did. The issue is time.
As this year comes to a close I’ve been thinking a lot about space a lot, particularly when it comes to my own time management. With all that’s going on with this country, all that’s going on in the world, my fortieth year on this planet approaching next spring, and hopefully spiritual and inner growth, I find myself reassessing what’s important to me, where I’m investing my time and energy, and what directions I want my work to go. A lot of it I suppose can be summarized as a reflection of my True Will along with my own self-care to make that more achievable.
After an absolutely insane schedule of traveling and teaching and speaking and presenting this year across the US, I’ve decided that I’m taking 2026 mostly off in that regard. The only event I will be doing is the Sacred Space & Between the Worlds joint conference in February. If I decline your event invitation, please know it’s not personal and that I will return to touring more actively again in 2027. I whole heartedly appreciate all invitations.
Instead, I plan to take this next year to be able to just create and write, since I had very little time this year to do that and there’s so many books I have in me that I would like to write including the continuation of both the Psychic Witch series and the Tarot book series. I also have other book projects in mind outside of those and one project already contracted with Llewellyn. So I’m giving myself space in terms of time, at least for the upcoming year. I’ve even created a nice and cozy space by revamping my home office / study to essentially hermit next year and create.
The Importance of Relaxation
One of the things I’ve been doing lately is diving into the scientific research, studies, and academic papers on psychic ability and magick. For the most part, they confirm a lot of what I’ve already known and written about, though it’s nice to learn about experiments I wasn’t aware of along with more up-to-date recent ones. But one thing that I wanted to highlight in this note is the importance of relaxation.
As you know, I’ve written a lot about the importance of relaxation when it comes to psychic ability and magick. One of the things that keeps popping up in my scientific research dives are the emphasis on this. In pretty much every study that I’ve read where they look at emotional state in terms of “psi phenomenon” they find over and over again that relaxation increases the accuracy of psychism significantly, and inducing stress doesn’t seem to make a significant impact one way or the other. (So don’t stress even more if you can’t relax completely!)
I’ve written extensively in my own books about, psychic ability and magickal ability are two sides of the same coin. Basically, energetic input vs output, and receptivity vs projection. I bring this up because as we all know, these are incredibly stressful times that we live in here in the United States and abroad. There’s so much going on that it’s incredibly hard to not have increased cortisol levels. But if we are to be performing magick that packs a stronger punch and predicting where things are going in terms of navigating the future, we must be finding time to give ourselves the time to relax and recharge. In the Wheel of the Year teachings we are taught that this period of the three Sabbats of Samhain, Yule, and Imbolc are meant for that, to go inwards and rest and focus on nurturing your inner light, just as trees withdraw their energy from their leaves and bring that focus into their roots at this time of the year.
Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying as choosing to put your head in the ground like an ostrich and calling that spiritual. As citizens of this planet, as beings incarnated in flesh suits in a physical world, it’s our jobs as stewards of this planet and as siblings to our fellow humans to be aware of and actively working on ensuring we’re doing what we can to make this a better place. And during these times we must be extra vigilant in this regard.
What I am saying is to prioritize periods of rest, relaxation, unplugging, and self-care, preferably and perhaps especially before performing magick, divination, or any other psychic work to ensure you don’t downward spiral. Particularly for those of us casting magick collectively to dismantle oppression, casting to protect the most vulnerable targets of that oppression, and casting towards a better future for all. As I’ve written many times before, overwhelm is a tool of oppression. And despite sounding too cliche, it’s true that you can’t pour from an empty cup.
How many times a day do you catch yourself doomscrolling? All of that stuff will be there anytime you pick up your phone or log on. Choose something that will help you unwind instead, at least once a day. Don’t let the bastards destroy all of your peace of mind and rest.
Cocoon of Relaxation (Exercise
The following is one of the many relaxation exercises you’ll find in my book Psychic Witch.
Take a moment to stretch and then find a comfortable position—you may lie down if you feel drawn to. Focus on your breath. Breathe deeply, slowly, and rhythmically. Don’t struggle. Find a pace that is comfortable for you.
With each inhalation, visualize yourself drawing in a calming energy of peace. With each exhalation imagine yourself blowing any stress or tension out of your body. The stress begins to fly away like dandelion seeds in the wind, floating away and bringing you more and more clarity.
Visualize an orb of light at your feet. The sphere is a very calm white and light mint color. It has a quality to it which is airy, icy, hot, and tingly. It is deeply soothing and healing. Anywhere it touches completely relaxes with your will.
Begin moving the orb upward to your shoulders, relaxing every muscle that it touches—front and back. When it gets to your shoulders, move the globe down each arm and hand—relaxing every muscle that it reaches. Draw the orb up your neck to your face—resting your eyes, your jaw, your facial muscles.
Listen to your body—where is there any discomfort, tension, or pain? Bring the orb to this area and as you draw in your breath, visualize your breath filling this area. Affirm that your body relaxes with your intentions.
Bring the orb back to your feet where it becomes a blanket of energy. Begin pulling this blanket up and around your body in your Witch Eye—like a cocoon of relaxation. When you are completely covered in your relaxation cocoon, visualize it beginning to melt and soak into your skin, deep throughout your muscles, into your nerves, and into your bones—giving you an even broader sense of relaxation.

The Wild Hunt News Review
The Wild Hunt did a review of the deluxe edition of Psychic Witch:
“I have always been a skeptic when it comes to deluxe editions because they rarely add anything new to the source material. I usually see them as money-grabs aimed at hardcore fans or newcomers to the book who like fancy things. (Don’t get me wrong – I do love me some fancy things from time to time.) However, it is the additional material in this edition of Psychic Witch that made me want to give this book a chance, and it succeeds based on that new material.”
